Hiya there. After a month of solo development, I finished the demo for the game I've been working on. The length of the experience amounts to around three and a half minutes, here's the full gameplay:

Kakuy Turay - Demo #03

What have I added since the last time I posted about it? Well, out of the things I said I wanted to add...

  • Splash screens (press to skip)
  • Main menu
  • Pause menu
  • Cutscenes (hold to skip)
  • Triggers to change levels

Apart from that, I added actual levels, a purpose for the phone (as a compass), pickable objects, interactable objects, a dialogue system (to use as a tutorial and to read the protagonist's thoughts) and a spec of narrative (through notes and environmental storytelling). I also added music that a friend made for me to the main menu, thanks Facu. I added more SFX as well, taken from Silent Hill.

Argentine idiom

There are many things I wanted to add or make better, sure, like a ritual, jumpscares, more scattered lore/story, better levels and sound design, custom-made SFX, models and textures, and much more. A bit more planning wouldn't have hurt, but I am glad I went for it and did it anyways without hesitating so much. I've learnt a lot about what it takes to make a game like this and hey, I love having projects I can always go back to, like this site :)

Cue the player to follow the trail

I realized as well the power of interactability and feedback. Each action felt much more powerful when the protagonist stopped for a bit to contemplate what it was doing, along with their respective sound effects. Small systems like this add so much to a game when you use them properly (not saying I did lmao).

Resident Evil's style of showing pictures

I do regret not making the story clearer for those who don't read my posts here, I realized I hadn't when I got some questions asking for the plot and/or the story, but oh well. Maybe I should've shown the game to more people that had no idea about it.

Anyways, if you want to snoop around for yourself, you can find the link to the itch.io web page here:

(as if I hadn't posted it enough times already xD)

I don't know whether I am going to keep working on this for the foreseeable future, for now, I'd like to spend what's left of the holidays at ease. I do hope to make the legend justice one day.

Check out this beautiful views.

So yeah, that's pretty much it. Thanks a lot for reading this part of my journey! Hey, if by any chance you have developed or are developing a game I'd love to see it :D

See you soon!
