How's it going fellas? Happy 2025! These past couple of weeks have been quite eventful so I didn't have a lot of time to focus on this site after the domain change.
ART
Among other things, I started drawing again. This time around, I decided to put the drawing tablet to good use and to start drawing digitally (I still sketch on paper sometimes). At the moment, my goal is to do concept art. So far I've learnt about value, perspective, form, shape, etc, etc. The basics. I am doing simple drawings like this one:

As you can see, these are just blocky shapes, but the point of this excercise is to use value to represent depth and to get used to layers. I haven't gotten into rendering, let alone color theory, but I'll get there.
I took a break from doing games for a while. For the time being, I want to focus more on my art so that I can make better looking games and, well, for personal enjoyment as well.
I would like to do some character design and pixel art in the future, but right now I feel like drawing landscapes, ruins, forests, and interesting locations.
LANGUAGES
Art aside, I started learning русский. Why? Well, it is the most spoken Slavic language and I want to surf their game programming forums. As I am told, their internet is very different from ours and it makes me curious. Understanding Катюша, Dostoyevski's works and Метро in that language must be very wild, that too.
I am doing an Anki deck and listening to songs in Russian almost daily, I am in no hurry so I am going to take it as chill as I possibly can. A couple of new words and reviews a day is enough for me, I don't want it to hindrance my daily life.

This year I will try to get a job in anything related to games. Being art, programming, translation or anything, I yearn for being part in the making of a videogame, regardless of the role I take.
I believe my dream job as of now is being a Technical Artist, I love art and programming so much I am not willing to give up any of them in the pursue of a career. I've come to realize I can't tackle everything at once or else I'll get burnt out and that's no good. I'll probably get back at gamedev in a couple of months once I get "good enough" at art, at least that's the plan.
In the meantime, I gotta get a new job, bills have to be paid.
Going freelance to earn a buck here and there is not such a bad idea, but it is too much of a hassle and I'd rather spend that time honing other skills that will be more useful down the road.
I've come to terms with my everlasting existencial dread, quite simply, however not easily. It is not that bad as long as I am doing things, thoughts shouldn't necessarily dictate your actions, and thoughts only bring more thoughts. You lose more by not choosing at all than by choosing wrong.
And well, planning only gets you so far, you gotta do soykaf if you wish to have anything to say for yourself.
I've started rambling so I am gonna wrap this up. 2024 was a great year, here's to an even better 2025! Thank you for reading this far and I wish you all the very best. Have a good one!
